Pragyan Bharati Scheme 2026
The Pragyan Bharati Scheme is an initiative by the Government of Assam launched in 2020. It awards scooters to meritorious girl students who achieve 80% or more in the Higher Secondary Final Examination conducted by the Assam State School Education Board.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Dr. Bani Kanta Kakati Merit Award, candidates must be residents of Assam and achieve 80% or more in the HS Final Exam 2026. Students in the betterment and reappearance category are not eligible.

Eligible students can apply online by visiting the official website. They need to register using their HS Examination Registration Number and fill out the required details.

Distribution Process
The distribution of scooters will follow a structured process involving the collection of eligible students' lists from the Assam State School Education Board. Nodal Principals will oversee the distribution and ensure that students receive their scooters without any cost for registration and insurance.
Beneficiaries of this scheme cannot apply for the Nijut Moina Scheme.
Discontinuation of Free Scooty Scheme
The Assam government has announced in the 2026-27 Budget that it will stop providing scooters to outstanding students starting next academic year. This year, approximately 18,000 students are set to receive scooters under the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award. Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah stated in the Assam Assembly that the aim is to promote fair distribution of educational support, allowing more deserving students to benefit rather than limiting assistance to a specific percentage cut-off. The funds saved will be redirected to enhance and expand the Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes.
